Thank you for joining us at the recent rally and press conference to save a West Village historic landmark and many other important landmarks in Chelsea , Greenwich Village and the Meatpacking District.

The event was at the site of the Northern Dispensary, one of New York ’s most important landmarks.  Built in the nineteenth century, this unusual Triangular Building served for many years as an infirmary for the poor and downtrodden of New York .  The Northern Dispensary has a deed requiring it provide care for the “worthy poor”  and once had Edgar Allen Poe as a patient.  Sadly, the Northern Dispensary stands empty and neglected today.

At the news conference, public interest lawyer Carl Mayer and plaintiff Michael Corbett joined concerned neighbors in announcing a litigation against current owners who have spent  years neglecting this landmark and many others like the Keller Hotel and the Gansevoort Market.

These buildings are some of the crown jewels of New York including architecturally significant structures and homes that were once the haunts of literary and artistic luminaries like Herman Melville, Henry James and Dylan Thomas.

Come back for periodic updates.
